Beneath a Bird

So be beneath a bird

and let it be alive

And watch its feather point August and watch

its tail flitter about.

For when its come to end and

you’ve showered in the yard with the garden hose
and spider’s web aglisten,

You’ve pinned up your knees and made
space in the hammock that swings
from treetops and with bees
who might be
working for Queen.

Smile to know

the order is holy.

The order was made
in Her womb.

See she coddles your
broken and your tired.

See she asks to kiss

your forehead.

She asks how long

you’ll be home.

Have you got clothes to knead
beneath the sun
and wind?

Have you berries
enough for winter
and for her, too?

Have you been regular
and aroused?

Have you been to the beach?

Have you been of the splendor
that is between your ears and
within your breath?

It is all there,
just there for you.
